A mobile digital site diary application clearly benefits construction directors and shareholders. Khaldon Evans, Script&Go’s International Marketing Manager for Site Diary, invited Dominika Ciesla, of VENT Mechanical Services to answer some questions on their use of the Site Diary app. Highlights from this conversation are given here.

Dominika explained that she is a director and shareholder of VENT Mechanical Services and on a day to day basis obtains a general overview of construction sites to ensure quality and completion on budget, while managing a team of design engineers.

She said she looked for a digital site diary solution to “keep track of daily traceable records on job sites including any verbal agreements, record of labour and other issues” and decided to purchase Site Diary due to it’s simplicity in use and level of accurate information which is just right for site use.

She elaborated that if her employees are asked to complete time-consuming reports, they are more likely not to do it, than if they use this site diary.

Vent Mechanical Services have used Site Diary for the ANZAC Memorial in Sydney Hyde Park and the refurbishment of a court room on level 6 of the Downing Centre in Sydney too.

She went on to say that the use of the Site Diary has changed the way they work at VENT Mechanical Services as “site reporting improved” as site managers can easily use the quick and simple tool and are therefore more likely to use it. She explained that regardless, it didn’t significantly change that they way they would do reporting but was just a “more efficient way of doing things.”

She said that the main advantages of using Site Diary were :

  • Good traceable records from sites (which last for quite a time after project completion)
  • Improved frequency of reporting (contributing to solving some issues at early stages)

Finally, Dominika suggested that the evolution of Site Diary app could benefit from :

  • The phone app automatically remembering the password or there should be a way to change a password for each user
  • The app itself having an option for open defects, which can be closed following completion on site

The Site Diary app can be installed on a Windows PC and used across multi-OS devices, smartphones and tablets, by construction management teams, in the office or on site as needed. An opportunity to trial it for yourself are available from Script&Go.
